How does food provide a source of energy for living things ?

Food has energy in it. When we digest food our body mixes it with acids and enzymes in our stomach. Then our stomach digests food, the carbohydrate (sugars and starches) in the food breaks down into another type of sugar, called glucose. The glucose gives us energy.
