The weight of the lithosphere keeps the mantle in a semi solid state and from this we can definitely infer that pressure actually raises the melting point of the solids. This is the reason why the mantle of the earth is in a semi solid state. This actually creates a balance and that should never be disturbed as it can create huge volcanic eruptions and earthquakes.
