Mustafa Kemal led the Turkish Nationalist Movement during the 1920s. Kemal had first rose to prominence as a leader in World War I. Throughout his lifetime, Kemal helped found the Republic of Turkey, and was selected as the new nation's first President, a position he held until his death.
