xy  =  165

x-y = 4

y = x - 4

x(x - 4) = 165

x² -4x - 165 = 0

(x - 15)(x + 11) = 0

x = 15, y = x - 4 = 11, x + y = 26

or

x = -11, y = x - 4 = -15, x + y = -26

We can't tell the sign, so we answer the sum is:

Answer:   ±26
