5 = -2 (x –  1)  (remove the parantheses)

5 = -2x + 2 (move the terms)

2x = 2 - 5 (calculate)

2x = -3 (divide both sides)

x= -3/2

5= -2x + 2 (move the terms)

2x = 2 - 5 (calculate)

2x = -3 (divide both sides)

x= -3/2
