y is equal to 4x + 4 in the first equation, and equals -3x - 3 in the second. We can equate the two equations as follows:

4x + 4 = -3x - 3

Keeping only x - terms on the left handside, we get

4x + 3x = -3 - 4

Simplifying, we obtain

7x = -7

x = -1

Substituting the value of x in any of the initial two equations should give the same answer for y.

Replacing in the first equation, y is found to be

y = 4(-1) + 4 = 0

Ans: x = -1, y = 0
