I would blame the colonists. They took out their anger on the entities closest to them, rather than the actual entity itself. They call it a massacre, but a massacre occurs when there was no fight and there was a struggle. The colonists had a good reason to fight, but they had other mediums to do so. Rather than marching straight to their own death
