The southern part of United States typically have warmer climate compared to mid and northern part. It also possess a lot of fertile soil. The combination of both of these things made it easier for different varieties of crops to grow.

On top of that, Southern part of United States did not have many metropolitan area. Typically, the average price for land in the south is cheaper compared to the price for land in the North. This made it much more affordable for immigrants.
