6x + 3y = 15
y = 3x - 5

6x + 3(3x - 5) = 15
6x + 9x - 15 = 15
15x -15 + 15 = 15 + 15
15x = 30
15x/15 = 30/15
x = 2

6x + 3y = 15
6(2) + 3y = 15
12 + 3y = 15
12 - 12 + 3y = 15 - 12
3y = 3
3y/3 = 3/3
y = 1

The value of y is 1
