Make sure the bottom numbers (the denominators) are the same.Subtract the top numbers (the numerators). Put the answer over the same denominator.Simplify the fraction (if needed).

Here is an Example of how to subtract fractions.

5/6 - 1/3 = ?

First we convert 1/3 into sixths so we do this: 1/3 x 2/2 = 2/6
then we put 2/6 back into the equation like so: 
5/6 - 2/6 = 3/6 then we reduce 3/6=1/2 <---Answer
