First we need to find the total number of pencils. To do this we multiply the number of pencils per box by the number of boxes.

96*3= 288

Then we need to divide the total number of pencils by the number of teachers to determine how many pencils each teacher will receive.

288/4= 72

When four teachers share three boxes each containing ninety-six pencils they each get seventy-two pencils.
