First, find the common ratio r:

-4/9 : 4/3 = -1/3

4/3 : -4 = -1/3

-4:12 = -1/3

r= -1/3

[tex]Sn=\frac{a(r^n-1)}{r-1}[/tex]

Where:

a= first term = 12

n= number of terms = 5

Replacing:

[tex]Sn=\frac{12(-\frac{1^{}}{3}^5-1)}{-\frac{1}{3}-1}[/tex]

Sn= 244/27 = 9 1/27
