LIGNIFIED VASCULAR TISSUE is the evolutionary development that allowed plants to grow tall.

The lignified vascular tissues are found in the xylem of the plants. These tissues contain lignin. The lignin supports the plants as they grow tall by regulating the transport of fluid within its body. It reinforces the cell walls and stop them from collapsing.
