Because the ingredients blend into one homogenous mixture, with a uniform appearance and consistency throughout. A heterogenous mixture has visibly different ingredients or phases, like oil in water.

Because a Heterogeneous mixture keeps its chemical properties and is made from two, but can be more, mixtures. Cottage cheese is a solution because a solution is a chemical distributed between the other chemical equally.
