Why do polar compounds tend to have higher melting boiling points than nonpolar compounds?

Polar compounds have permanent dipole-dipole interactions as well as induced dipole-dipole interactions. As there are more stronger intermolecular forces, it takes more energy for these forces to be broken and therefore higher heat to melt and boil them
