Reducing agent is an compound/atom, that loses an electron and is oxidized.

Ca + 2HCl ----> CaCl₂ + H₂

Calcium is oxidized --- it's reducing agent (reductant).
Hydrogen is reduced --- HCl is oxidizing agent.
