Why is nitrogen gas very unreactive?

in nitrogen bound it has a triple bond between two nitrogen atom. This triple bond is constituted of one sigma and two pi bonds. the intermolecular forces in there are weak so diatomic molecules exist freely . nitrogen gas is apparently inactive under normal conditions
