A certain number is 3 more than twice another. If their sum is increased by 8, the result is 41. Find the numbers.

x = 2y + 3
(x + y) + 8 = 41

(2y + 3 + y) + 8 = 41
3y + 11 = 41
3y = 41 - 11
3y = 30
y = 30/3
y = 10

x = 2y + 3
x = 2(10) + 3
x = 23
