The men who broke into the Democratic National Committee office were connected to Nixon's reelection campaign. After the break in Nixon tried to hide the crime. The guilty parties had been tapping telephone lines and stealing sensitive documents. Once it was revealed that Nixon was trying to hide their crimes, he resigned from presidency.
