To determine what the charge would be simply perform or treat this question as a proportional type of question.

6 particles ( n charge) = -48 units
1 particle ( n charge) = ?

6n = -48
n = -8.

Each particle has a charge of -8 units. This is how 6 of them gives a total charge of -48 units.
