Seven plus the quotient of a number and 5 is -12

7+ (x/5) =-12
subtract 7 from both sides
(x/5)+7-7=-12-7
x/5 = -19
multiply both sides by 5
x/5 • 5 = -19•5

x = -95

to check:

7+(-95/5) = -12
