General MacArthur left his station in the Philippines, because President Roosevelt of the United States told him to do so, as the Japanese were tightening their grip on the Philippines. The Philippines had been under many different countries rule and not of it's own, and Roosevelt saw this coming and told the General to relocate to Australia with a small group, including army personnel and his family members.
