He invented interchangeable parts. This made it so if something in the machine stops working they can fix it rather than trash the machine and buy a new one. Today pretty much everything we use, technology wise, can be fixed with new parts. Therefore it is affecting us today by making life easier and cheaper than it would be if he hadn't done that.
