When traveling a certain distance, it is done at a certain speed (rate) for a certain length of time. The formula that ties these variables together is… d = r · t
So 18 inches per minute is 1.5 feet per minute.

    (18 inch / 1 minute) x (1 foot / 12 inch) 

=  (18 x 1) / (1 x 12) (foot / minute)

=          18/12  foot/minute  =  1.5 foot/minute
