We want to use the Substitution method to solve
7x - 2y = 1          (1)
x - 2y = 1           (2)

From equation (1), obtain
2y = 7x - 1          (3)

Substitute (3) into (2).
x - (7x - 1) = 1
-6x + 1 = 1
-6x = 0
x = 0

From (3), obtain
2y = 7*0 - 1 = -1
y = -1/2

Answer: (0, -1/2)  or x=0, y= -1/2.
